Promote initial reflections on the foundations of education, learning psychology and contemporary issues of education. Provide a critical view of the main themes of higher education methodology. Develop skills in addressing problems of pedagogical practice that perpetuate in the context of the classroom, enriching the teaching-learning process. Recognize and live the research practice as a reflection mechanism to improve the quality of teaching. Develop critical sense by analyzing concrete educational situations through interdisciplinarity. Sensitize the student to the importance of ethical issues related to teaching practice.

Scientific methodology

Improve theoretical and methodological knowledge in research, critical view and definition of issues in relation to scientific research. Guide and instruct the graduate student in all stages of the elaboration of the research project. Encourage the graduate student to define themes, hypotheses, justifications, objectives and experimental designs proposed for further graduate studies. Broaden the critical view on reading and analyzing experimental data obtained previously or published.

Graduate Socialization with Basic Education

Provide graduate students with knowledge related to the context of basic education in the Southern Frontier region. Make research and knowledge on health, welfare and sustainable animal production accessible and attractive for this level of education, as well as the context in which they are inserted, reaffirming the importance of the relationship between the University and the School in all areas of knowledge. Prepare graduate students for critical, productive and inclusive action.

Reading and Production of Scientific Texts

Develop the ability to read and interpret scientific texts in their mother tongue and foreign language, critically and dynamically. At the conclusion of the subject, it is expected that the graduate student will be able to articulate and structure ideas in order to build scientific texts in the mother tongue and foreign language.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Develop knowledge about entrepreneurial concepts and characteristics in order to seek opportunities, as well as develop business plans and research. The graduate student will have the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial spirit in business, research and academic activities through the application of entrepreneurial management tools.

Health Challenges and Communicable Disease Surveillance

Current studies regarding the state of animal health in the Brazilian territory, with special attention to the border regions. The graduate student should be able to deal with health challenges and communicable disease surveillance. The graduate student is expected to familiarize himself with the National Animal Health Programs for health and public health prevention.

Sustainable Production in Family Farming Herds

Awaken a comprehensive view of the production system, emphasizing planning, nutritional management and food quality in the face of alternative and sustainable animal production techniques. The graduate student shall envisage sustainability in the different animal production systems, in the context of management, nutrition, health, reproduction and quality in production.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Conducts in Animal Health

To stimulate the interpretation, comprehension, questioning and discussion skills of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in clinical and veterinary surgery. In addition, he shall develop the perception of the conditions that can be diagnosed clinically, in laboratory, imaging and surgical scopes, applying the technologies, minimizing the invasion and making the therapy more effective.

Laboratory Diagnostic Tools Applied to Scientific Research

Develop the capacity of selection, collection and storage of samples for hematological, biochemical, parasitological, cytological and histopathological analysis with emphasis on research projects. Develop presentation and discussion skills with greater efficiency of laboratory results. Develop the critical and multidisciplinary vision in their interpretation in scientific production.

Stress, Oxidative Metabolism and Pain in Animals

The graduate student shall develop ability to identify pain, stressors as well as the risk of oxidative stress. He shall act in such a way as to prevent their occurrence when performing veterinary procedures. Improve the understanding of the pathophysiology of these elements in animal welfare and correlate them in an inter and multidisciplinary way.

Conventional and Unconventional Therapy Applied to Health

Expansion of knowledge about conventional, unconventional, alternative and surgical pharmacological methods for the individualized treatment of animal diseases. Also, develop the ability to select the most appropriate therapeutic methods for each case and adjust them according to the particularities of the patients.

Ambience and Wellness in Animal Production

Knowing animal behavior, develop the ability to recognize changes in behavioral and physiological indicators associated with ambience. Develop and direct critical thinking of sustainable animal production, grounded in animal welfare and ambience.

Teaching Internship

Improve theoretical and methodological knowledge of teaching in higher education. Prepare for the teaching and qualification of undergraduate education and develop the critical view of teaching in higher education regarding the area of study of the graduate student. Apply the training previously obtained in the subject Pedagogical Preparation offered by this Program.
